Lok Sabha adjourned for the day amid Opposition ruckus

New Delhi, Mar 27 (UNI) Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Monday amid Opposition ruckus over the Adani issue.
Several MPs from the Opposition holding placards trooped into the well of the House after it reassembled at 1600 hours.
As soon as the Presiding Officer Rama Devi resumed proceedings of the House, members of the Opposition started shouting slogans demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe into the Hindenburg Research report regarding the Adani Group.
The Hindenburg Research report alleged that the Adani Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud schemes over the course of decades.
However, the Presiding Officer announced that the papers scheduled to be laid in the House are deemed as laid.
After that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, with the permission of the Chair presented before the House the Finance Bill-2023 as amended by the Rajya Sabha on Monday for approval. The House then approved it by voice vote amid sloganeering from the Opposition benches.
The amendments in the Upper House were moved by the government side under which the rate of Securities Transaction Tax (STT) has been hiked from 0.05 per cent to 0.0625 per cent i.e Rs 5,000 per crore to Rs 6,250 per crore.
The Presiding Officer then adjourned the House till 1100 hours on March 28.
Earlier this morning, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House within a minute after it assembled amid pandemonium by Opposition over Adani issue and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lower House as a member. Speaker disapproved their conduct and said, "I want to run the House with dignity." He then adjourned the House till 1600 hours.
